A 20-foot pontoon boat with 12 persons on board struck the steel floodgate structure of the Lake Gaston Dam at approximately 1:30 a.m., July 4. The pontoon boat was moving fast enough to force its way up onto the floodgate. It became wedged between the top of the floodgate and the steel structure supporting it.....

The Lake Gaston Volunteer Fire Department marked their first 20 years in service with a milestone.

At midnight, July 1, the Department implemented its First Responder program. From this point forward the Lake Gaston Volunteer Fire Department (LGVFD) will be staffed 24/7 with two personnel.

“This is a project that we have been working on for four years now, and it makes me so proud to see it in action,” said EMS Captain Chris Roux.

“A lot of work went into putting this together and I couldn’t be more proud of all my guys and the extra hours they put in to make this happen,” said Fire Chief Doug Blanton.

LAKE GASTON — Summer is here and so is the time to be on the lake. Many residents will likely have family and friends visiting for the season and one local group would like to help keep families safe while they are on the water.
Children’s Life Jacket Loaner Program Youth under the age of 13, may borrow a life jacket from: • Morningstar Marina sales office • Outdoor World, in Littleton • Washburn’s Marina, in Henrico • Sherwood Forest, in Henrico.

Legislature has passed bills requiring a life jacket for each person on boats and now anyone under the age of 13 is required to wear a life vest at all times on a boat that is underway.....

The Lake Gaston Water Safety Council has updated its information signs to reflect the new North Carolina and Virginia boating regulations. The signs also list the locations where free loaner child-sized life vests are available. The life vests have been placed at nine marinas and businesses around the lake.

The large signs are posted at the lake's marinas and public launch ramps where they can be easily seen by to boaters.

Several subdivisions have been given signs to post at their community launch ramps and docks.

The signs specify current boating safely regulations and lists the pertinent ages and requirements for boaters to be in compliance with state laws.

The second annual Vettes at Lake Gaston was held June 5th, 6th 2010. Thirty three Beachcombers cruised to Lake Gaston on Saturday and went to the Watersview Restaurant. We had lunch outside overlooking a panoramic view of the lake. We then drove to Dianna and John Clyburn's lake home and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of boats rides and conversation. Charlie and Patty Brown brought over their new boat and provided tours of the lake. Art and Hazel Fritz provided a keg for everyone's enjoyment. We had a BBQ dinner later that evening out on the deck.

The TLC is located at the Food Lion Shopping Center, at 2455 Eaton’s Ferry Road, at Lake Gaston.
